Kaprun is an excellent centrally located base for exploring other places in Austria.
In winter there are plenty of other Salzburger Area ski resorts within easy reach of Kaprun such as Saalbach/Hinterglemm/Leogang (20 minute drive), Bad Gastein (30 minute drive),
Kitzbühel (25 minute drive to lift), Hoch König ski area 20 minute drive to Maria Alm. For only a few Euros more skiers can enjoy the advantages of a Salzburger Area ski pass.
Why not try the 14km toboggan run at Neukirchen in the Wildkögel nearby. There are also many kilometres of prepared cross country ski routes local to Kaprun.
In summer the choices for holiday activities increase and range from the sedate to the extreme. Visit Salzburg (60-90 minutes drive) the
birthplace of Mozart and watch open-air concerts in the centre. Visit the Gastein Valley and the Victorian resort of Bad Gastein (30 minutes drive) with its waterfall through
the centre. Take a horse drawn carriage ride around the resort. Visit the highest waterfall in Austria at Krimml (30 minutes drive) with its 3 levels of falls. Visit the
Ice Caves at Werfen (40 minutes drive) for an unforgettable experience. There are plenty of local activities to keep you amused such as white-water rafting down the Salzach
river or paragliding off the Schmittenhöhe.
There are 2 18-hole golf courses between Kaprun and Zell am See. The “Kitzsteinhorn” and “Schmittenhoehe” courses are beautifully set in the middle of the Alps. Go cycling
along the many valley floor marked cycle paths, safe for all ages and experience the unforgettable views and breathtaking landscape in the surrounding area. We can advise you where
to hire bicycles. Take a sedate horse ride close to the lake at Zell am See. Visit the Kaprun reservoirs where much of the electricity for Austria is generated. Visit the Kitzsteinhorn
glacier and feel like you are on top of the world. Drive along the scenic Grossglockner Route through a national park and up the highest mountain in Austria for stunning
views and maybe see a marmot. For those willing to travel further, why not visit Innsbuck or the medieval village of Rattenburg near to Innsbruck. The local tourist information
centre can help you with all of your planned days out, they speak many languages. Otherwise ask us and we will advise you of the best places to visit. There are also tourist
guide books available for you to reference in the apartment.
